When my kids were little, Mother’s Day gifts usually involved a card with their drawings or “signatures” and chocolates, or something like that. About 10 years ago, my boys put together a fun treasure hunt to surprise me. I honestly don’t remember the gift at the end of the search, but I DO remember the fun we had as I hunted for it — just look at those smiles!
The past few years, I have (somewhat obviously) been more focused on travel and healthy living. As Mom’s Day approaches, chocolates might not be the best gift. Oh, who am I kidding…. chocolate is always a GREAT gift!
In case my family is reading this, though, I thought maybe I’d help them out a little and share my travel-mama wishlist!
Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for traveling mamas
At the top of my list is a fitbit! Yes, I recently jumped on the fitness bandwagon, thanks in large part to my friends in Lake Charles, Louisiana and my sweet running buddies at my church here at home.
Next on my list is a fruit infuser water bottle! I mean, really, who wants blah, boring, water-flavored water? I much prefer fruity flavors, but I don’t like the sweeteners that the store-bought flavored waters use. And then there’s the practical side of things… have you ever tried to squish an orange into a standard water bottle opening? Yeah…. you know what I mean. So, this one lets you drop fruit in to infuse your water. Such a great idea!
Here at the blog, one of the most common questions I get is from cruisers who are surprised that they can’t take an iron on the ship. They are worried about wrinkled clothes. If there’s a cruiser or frequent traveler on your Mother’s Day list, then consider a wrinkle-free dress! Trust me, it feels great to pull that thing out of the suitcase, shake it once and look fresh as a daisy!
Now that I travel a lot, I like to be organized and efficient. Long gone are the days of pack it all in case you might need something. Today, I’m a savvy packer, able to go 5 days in one carry-on (some I know can go 3 weeks with one carry-on). To improve my packing prowess and look fashionable in the process, I’d love a hanging jewelry organizer!
International travel (even major cities and airports in the US) is getting more challenging. Identity thieves are getting more savvy, thus the need for smarter wallets, like a women’s RFID wallet and passport holder. If you’re envisioning an ugly travel wallet, circa 1983, no way! Today’s travel wallets are technologically advanced AND look great. A traveling mama should look great!
Last, but certainly not least, I’d love a cute tote to carry home all my treasures. Every trip I go on, I invariably come home with more stuff than when I left. You know, I have to bring home goodies and gifts if I want the family to keep letting me go! Usually I bring home regional snacks — they’re fun and they don’t clutter the house. Getting them home is my only problem, so a handy, packable tote would sure be nice. If it’s cute, that’s even better!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful moms out there!
